Hey all, I'm just starting to get into audio. I caught the headphone bug first and already have some nice cans and IEMs as well as some headphone amps and a nice DAC. Lately though, I've been craving a full size setup.

Right now i have a Harmon Kardon PM665 which was a pretty nice integrated amplifier in it's heyday and puts out 100 watts per channel. My source is my computer, using optical out to my Matrix Cube DAC/headphone amp.

All that (I think) is ok for right now, but my speakers on the other hand...they're not exactly hi-fi. They're Sensui SP-X8900s and they're not the greatest. I think that is the very first issue with my system I need to deal with, then I'd probably get some monoblocks and use the HK as a pre, then get a nice preamp and use my current set-up as a second/garage rig.

First thing is first though, the speakers. I listen to a wide variety of music: folk, hardcore punk, indie rock/pop, classic rock, hip-hop, electronica, classical/chamber and jazz. I know, terribly broad.

I'm really looking for something $500-$1000, preferably toward the cheaper end of the scale, if possible that has a nice, even response, can put out decent (doesn't need to shake walls) bass and has nice imaging and soundstage.

The Magnepan MMG are what I'm leaning toward. I do worry about the bass response and having enough balls to play rock the way it should sound. Any other suggestions or perhaps support for the MMGs?

Thanks!
