I recommend using your phone's blue tooth to conect an Audioengine b1 reciever/DAC/preamp (apx $150). You probably have a decent 4.0 bluetooth though 5.0 is better. The phone's DAC is certainly not audiophile!
This all depends on decent speakers and adequate integrated amp. Put money into seakers above all else. Entry level is about $500 a pair very minimum. I run ancient KEF 104 speakers from 1975 that can be had ebay for $500 pair.
If you don't mind retro I'd use a rebuilt Marantz 1060 from the same era. Again, ebay about $500.
Yes, if your DAC has a USB input the lightning-camera adapter is what you need. My iPhone 6S+ works with my Schiit Modi. I think it sounds better, but the difference isn't large enough that I can confidently say Iād hear it in an blind A/B test but it allows me to listen to 24/192 files from Amazon HD, so I'm doubling the placebo effect.
