Yes, I know this question has been asked 3.6 million times but I simply can't find a straightforward answer. I have an iPhone6. I can obviously connect it to a preamp with a 3.5>RCA cable. And I gather that the iPhone's DAC is pretty good.

If I want to maximize the sound quality from my iPhone, is there an obvious way to connect it to a preamp that has an onboard DAC? I'm sorry to be dense but I'm assuming I want to bypass the iPhone's DAC, providing an digital feed into the preamp so it can be converted by the preamp's DAC. (Right?) I see that some people use a Lightning to USB camera adapter, though I wonder if that's for newer phones. Would I then need a USB>coax/optical adapter or cable?

And if I can figure out how to connect the iPhone to the preamp's digital input>DAC, would I hear better sound?

School me, please!

Thank you!
