(When my daughter was 6 I instilled the love of reading by taking her to the book store and letting her find her own books to read. Now she's 11 and I want to do the same with music.)

I'm looking to get the most music enjoyment for each dollar spent. Maximum bang for the buck per say...

Going to the record shop to shop for music just isn't going to work. It's like me trying to buy a bottle of wine. So it's going to have to be iTunes for Rachel.

I'm thinking of getting her a iPod Touch 8gig and a set of Skull Candy Titans. I would get her a set of Grado SR-60's but their too open air and I don't want to sometimes hear her music (in the car).

With the iPod Touch I can set her up with an iTunes allowance and she can buy the music directly into her iPod. (I get the bill e-mail so I know what she's buying.)

In the future I would add a set of PSB Alpha B1 speakers and a NAD C315BEE amp.

This way she has control and freedom (mostly) to enjoy her discovery of music and can share music with her friends.

When she has an idea of what music she wants I would add a Oppo DV-980H universal player.

No one piece is more than $400. iPod Touch & Titan's $280. Alpha B1's & C315BEE $630, DV-980H $170. $1,080 total.

Can you think of anything better?
