Hello, I would like to enrich my home audio experience.
Currently I am running:
Harmon Kardon AVR 130 receiver,
Harmon Kardon DVD 22 dvd (cd player) for analog signal,
Xbox 360 for digital signal,
Polk Audio R30's for left and right fronts,
Bose Accoustimas II for center, rr, rl, and passive sub,
Monster Cable connecting everything except the XBox 360.

When listening to cd's I switch the reciever to stereo mode, and this is where I crave more. I am wanting a better music experience as opposed to home theater.

My living room measures:

Imagine a rectangle with the listening area on one side with the speaker's sound waves aiming the shortest distance.

40 feet lenght, where the receiver and front left and right are positioned. The system is on one side of the living room with the receiver ten feet from the edge of one wall.

18 feet width, with the left and right fronts positioned 14 feet from my listening chair.

The ceiling is 12 feet high and the room has wood floors.

I have been reading a few issues of Stereophile Magazine and realized that there is a comlete world out there that I am missing. Needless to say the more I learn the more I am overwhelmed. I am almost to the point of buying some descent headphones and conceding defeat except I would like to share my experience with my wife and child.

I think I want to upgrade speakers.
I have had Infinity and Focal speakers in my auto's and enjoyed both.
One of my concerns is that I have read where people have bought speakers that have overwhelmed their space. I would rather listen to music at a lower volume with greater clarity which leads me to believe that I would be happier with a used set of Focals. What would be limit on size that I should go with their lineup? The Infinity's that I was looking at are the Beta 40's. Again I am wondering if that is too much for my space.

As far as the receiver and dvd(cd)player go I am overwhelmed by the choices and prices that come along with such high end stuff. I listen to cd's, not vinyl.
I am looking to upgrade piece by piece over a somewhat long period.

I hope all my confused ramblings translate into something cogent enough for a constructive response from you guys.
Thanks
