Within the framework of assisting the choosing a new sound system for our church's 1300 seat sanctuary, I stuck by my guns for the playback system for the new main choir room. I chose a Unison Unico Integrated amp ($1700), an Audio Analogue Paganini CD player ($1K), and a pair of Triangle Cometes ($995). That system has very good resolving power and allows our 50+ member choir to help discern their individual singing parts when learning a new piece. Much of the accompaniment is done with "trax" which makes for a very nice presentation when you do not have church-member musicians for forming a small orchestra. The sound of the Unico/AA Paganini through the Triangles is excellent and a great monitor system. This was 3 years ago.
I have been wearing out our Music Minister to get rid of his "boom box" in his office and get a "real" audio system in which to preview potential new pieces for the Choir to perform. Price was an issue here. In his office is going a Jolida JD1701 hybrid integrated amp and Triangle Cometes. I will change the 12AX7's to 12AU7's with some NOS I have here at the house. No $500 amp has a right to sound this good, at least to me. No remote, but who cares. This is a very nice starter system. If the masses had something this nice they would understand why we are nutty over music.
This system or something close to me is the bare minimum that anyone who makes their living in music should own. Now my challenge is to empty his IPod of MP3 files and show him how to input wav files. Baby steps for sure, but boat loads of progress is being made.
