Hi all,

I'm going to upgrade my system later this year and will probably do it in stages. I currently am running the following:

Denon UD-M50 amp/CD player/Tuner - http://www.denon.ca/hapdfs/udm50.pdf
Energy Conoisseur C-1 speakers - http://www.energy-speakers.com/v2/products/product-page.php?ident=C-1
Mission MS-8 sub

I was hoping to get a pair of speakers first (will audition Tannoy Revolution Signature DC6, NHT Classic Three, Paradigm Reference Signature S1 v.2, B&W 685, perhaps PMC, Dynaudio, and Spendor too). However, a poster at another forum suggested I might want to upgrade the amp first as the Denon would have trouble powering these speakers. It doesn't seem to struggle much in running the C-1's, however I also don't want to risk damaging a brand new and more expensive set of speakers because of an underpowered amp. I've tried to keep my options to mostly 8ohm impedance speakers (which other than Dynaudio I believe they all are), though not all these choices are terribly efficient (I think most are 86-88db).

I was hoping to get some more feedback so I'm throwing this out here as well. How would you progress with a whole system upgrade? In addition to the speakers, I plan on adding an integrated amp for about $800 (NAD, Cambridge, Rotel seem to be the choices at that price), a CD player (no more than $1,000), and a tuner (eventually a record player too). I can keep my Mission sub for now then upgrade that later on.

I won't be buying all at once, so either I buy speakers first and continue to use the Denon, or I buy an amp and use the Denon as a CD player and tuner, then maybe in one year get new speakers, and then finally a CD player and tuner.

One thing to consider is that I have a pair of Tannoy Mercury F2 speakers I can trade in this year to the dealer I purchased them from and get a full refund if I buy speakers costing 25% more - which at that store would either be the Tannoy or B&W. If I upgrade other components first then I'll lose the right to this upgrade plan because it's only good for one year. Thus, I'd prefer to upgrade the speakers first but not if it's simply ill advised.

Thanks in advance!
