All right, rock bottom, great sounding for the money -
I would look at the Cambridge Audio Topaz AM10 from Music Direct or Needledoctor. It is a good sounding amp with an okay phono stage for $299. Tough to beat but requires a pretty efficient speaker to go with it due to its low power rating at 35w.
For speakers, I would look at the Cambridge Audio Aeromax 2 from accessories4less for $349 brand new which is like 40% off. These are extremely efficient and easy to drive with a sesitivity of 90dB and have a suprisingly good frequency response with bass that goes down to 40hz. 20w will drive these to deafening levels so they are a good chocie to pair with that Topaz.
For turntable, you could get a Pro-Ject Debut III from Music Direct for $299. Comes pre-installed with a decent Ortofon cartridge and is a really good table for the money.
For $1049, this would all be new equipment and would sound really good. You could consider an upgraded phono stage vs. the built in one in the Topaz. I would talk to the guys at music direct or needledoctor and ask them there POV.
I have purchased equipment from all three of the retailers I mentioned above and have nothing but good things to say about them. Nice, very knowledgable people who will be able to offer alternative pairings. I outlined one option and there are many others solutions worth considering that are potentially less expensive. Needledoctor or Music Direct woudl be a good resource to discuss. Crutchfield would also be a good retailer to contact and discuss.
Hope this helps and good luck to you
