Is it a feeling? Is it boredom? Is it that rave review you just read of another?
(To stay within this forum, the consideration here would be of an older entry-level cart to a new entry-level cart. Hey, many of us just don't get to graduate to the big leagues, OK?)
I've got one that seems to still sound pretty good, but I've had it so long (but with relatively minimal hours of use, unfortunately) how do I gauge things like stylus wear or body degradation? The patient in question is a Grado something-or-other circa '93-'95 that cost like $200 retail. Really nice cart for the money in my opinion.
I suppose I could hunt down a dealer with a microscope who'd give an opinion about the stylus. But does something inside the body degrade with age? Magnets get weak? Adhesives or suspensions get brittle?
Certain brands or types more susceptible than others?
Obviously, people who semi- regularly upgrade or swap stuff out don't ever come across this issue. But out here in "the real world
