It sounds like your system is very good. The 757 is very good-sounding as are the speakers.

Your comment on MP3 makes me wonder about something. My experience is that the sound quality of 320K MP3 are very good, while the lower-rez files sound crappy. All MP3s are not the same! You should keep that in mind.

Using your iPhone as a source is problematic.

You should get a high-quality server that can be controlled by a phone. Bluesound Vault is a good example.

Recently been doing some testing and no question you will hear the difference between an MP3 and any lossless file. The higher resolution the MP3 the better but any lossy file will sound inferior to a lossless.

The 757 receiver is Roon ready and NAD makes a pretty darn good DAC. You need to stream off of your laptop and that will allow you to deliver all your files straight to the DAC. You download Roon Server to the computer and load the Roon app on your iPhone. Roon is an awesome controller. I have 40k files and it loads and searches instantly. Roon will clean up and organize all your files and even integrates Tidal. You can get a better DAC vs what is built into the NAD, but not for $250. It turns your computer into a high speed server for music. It is not cheap, $120/ year or $500 lifetime but it is worth it.

Given your budget constraints, I recommend something like the Synology DS218play and a Chromecast Audio (supports up to 24/96), for now. Later on, you can treat yourself to a DAC and/or streamer (and repurpose the Chromecast for another room).

Also, while the Synology does support AAPL proprietary tech, I wouldn't recommend using it: Use FLAC and DLNA instead.
