Our house in Nashville got flooded and my wife and I were pretty sure we would lose the house and go bankrupt. We did not qualify for flood insurance as we were not in the 500 year floodplain and FEMA did not give us enough to come close to rebuilding despite our asking for help from our congressman and filing two appeals for more funds.
Then our church stepped in. They came and tore out our walls and hauled out our furniture. They gave us furniture to use. They gave us money to start the repairs. Other churches came too. People from Nashville, people from the Gulf Coast who wanted to support us like others had supported them, people from churches that we did not know.
So we started rebuilding in faith based on what God and His people had done. The building started and is almost finished, but we were a lot short and had to use the month's paychecks to buy appliances so they could put in the counter top.
We had $500 for the rest of the month and owed low five figures on our repairs.
I figured that our church would help us and God would provide. But God my friends has a sense of humour.
FEMA calls US up out of the blue and says they may have some more money for us. I figured they would have $300, which we would accept with humble and thankful hearts. I looked in the account this morning and they had basically doubled what they gave us in the first place. I was stunned.
Then a few minutes later my wife got a call from We Are Home Nashville. They had worried that we would not qualify for a loan, and we had written them off. They said we qualified for a large sum grant.
So within two hours we went from anxiously trusting to tearfully, humbly confident and thankful. It is not something I can express verbally, but it is a huge emotional experience.
So I am posting this to thank my Father in heaven for hearing our cries and meeting our needs in strange and wonderful ways. There is more to say, but I am not sure how to say it. But I am humbled by this demonstration of how much God loves us all. And I must recommend Him to you.
