Hello, back into High End Audio, or rather "The Search for Musical Hardware" as I've named it, and I have been on a search. I am a USA reviewer of PC hardware with a Belgium site, 50% of our readers are USA based. Using a set of carefully selected questions I have found there are a large number of "closet" Audiophiles among our readers.
I have been running behind the integrated-USB-DAC-Audio-Euro-designed-China-manufactured-SET-amplifier bandwagon and searching for speakers to match.
When I was first into Audio back in 1990 finding a low cost high quality integrated tube amp was difficult and the best low cost solid state was a Creek or Naim etc which seemed to lack dynamic range as they tried to make them tube-like or something.
Today low cost intergrated SET amps are falling from the sky, problem is for every ten there's one decent speaker in the same price range.
I am launching a series of articles on the USB DAC Audio moovement and have found several amps. The Decco integrated hybrid sounds quite good, and I have the Tecon Model 55' 5W SET but need a speaker to match.
I have narrowed speaker choices to what I think may be best such as folded horn or high db design speakers under 1,ooo USD. PC-Enthusiasts for most part have never heard decent sound because PC-speakers are notoriously anti-musical almost as if they were designed that way (except for a Monsoon bass planar satillite set) and the powered Audio Engine AE5's which for $350 are a step above any typical PC speaker.
Your help would be greatly appreciated. Please be gentle on me I left High End 12-years ago when I found myself listenting to the hardware and my musical collection which should have increased had two dics, Joni Mitchell BLUE, and the infamoyus CowBoy Junkies Trinity Sessions both obviously due to recording quality. What was once just two great "records" ended up in the same catagory as DMP Multichannel Reference SACD - SACD-16:.
I have already contacted Omega for their Super Hemp 5's or Compacts, still awaiting delivery as promised by louis. Contacted The Horn Shoppe, Ed was great and it seems to me what he's come up with is the best thing since a tube staged DAC but he only builds to order and there's a list, and that's where I'm at. PLEASE HELP
