First integrated amp purchase - opinions please!

Whether either of these is adequate or appropriate will depend on what speakers they are being asked to drive. These both deliver relatively low power output so if you are looking at a speaker that is relatively inneficient with a lower sensitivity, they might be completely inadequate.

Thanks for your reply. The speakers I have are IMF Super Compact II's. Not sure how much power they need.

Based on this thread from a few years ago, looks like those are pretty inefficient speakers.

You won't damage them with the integrated you have outlined above but you will tax them as you will use a lot of power to get to normal listening levels and the sound will most likely be relatively thin. What is your budget? Are you open to used or refurbished gear?

I suggest the Marantz PM5005, which is $499 from Audio Advisor.

It should have adequate power and good sound quality.

As for connecting to a TV, you have two ways to go:

Either get a TV with an analog output, such as most Sonys and some others, or just buy an inexpensive DAC to go between the TV's digital output and the amps analog input. You can get them from Amazon for under $50.
