I'm a college student who currently rocks NHT 2.5i floorstanding speakers wired into a Sonos Connect:AMP, a setup which I have been very happy with for a year or so, but I feel that its time for me to move on and look into a more high end setup
Luckily, because I work at a salvage shop part time, I came across a B&W ASW10CM that I grabbed for a couple hundred dollars. That's a good start, but I want something more. I'm in my final year of undergrad, so I'd like to transition to bookshelf speakers as floorstanders will be hard to move cross country if grad school requires it. Now, my first instinct was to want KEF LS50s, which I've heard nothing but good things about... when the system running them is in tip top shape. My ideas for said system would be to swap my Connect:AMP for a Sonos Connect and replace the amp with possibly an Adcom GFA555 which I've heard very nice things about. I'd also like to stop streaming as much music and start up a CD collection, and an Oppo BDP-103 seems like a solid choice for that. My max budget for speakers, amp and disk player is $1800, which is achievable provided I show patience and pick up the LS50s for ~$900, the GFA555 for ~$550 and the BDP-103 for ~350 (all off of ebay)
Now, my questions are numerous: are the Adcom and Oppo good enough to do the KEF LS50s justice?
Are there better choices for amps or disk players in my price range?
Am I aiming too high for a first truly HiFi system; will this be so much of an increase over my current setup that I won't be able to fully appreciate all the nuances of the new sound?
Would my proposed system be able to adapt to various room sizes, as moving may be frequent in the next couple years for me?
All responses are appreciated, even tough critiques of my proposed idea. As I've said, I'm looking to begin my journey into audiophiledom and seek the counsel of more those more experienced.
Oh, and if it helps, my musical taste is eclectic, from the guitar virtuosity of Julian Lage to the desolate drone metal of Scott Walker and Sunn O)))'s collab to the fast paced, funky rap of A Tribe Called Quest: I listen to just about anything depending on mood.
