I would consider a tube preamp with some righteous Emotiva UPA-1, XPA-2, or XPA-1 power.

I seem to recall that those amps can run various tubes, but I kinda doubt that the KT90 would be OK. At the very least, I would check with the folks at Upscale Audio to see first.

There's even a KT120 offered now that will really juice them up if the amp can provide the current draw and you might ask about that as well.

In short, don't try it without getting the OK from Upscale or the manufacturer.

On a side note, I also seem to remember that those amps were a little finicky in partnering with preamps and that could be where your problem lies.

It's an integrated amp...The 38 watts do not seem to drive either speaker as well as a much more basic set of Emotiva monoblocks do..

As new tubes is cheaper than new speakers...I was hoping

Upscale advises the tubes would work but would require changes to the amp to get that extra power...Not worth the effort...

Does anyone know anything about KT90 tubes? By that I mean, is this tube a substitute for an EL34 or KT88 setup? I have read it puts out more power than either of those other tubes and am wondering what it would do in a PrimaLuna Dialogue II, if it would work there at all??

The amps 38 watts does not work well with my existing MMG's or mini monitors..

With the choice of KT88, KT66, 5881, 6550, EL34,7581a and probably more, isn't there already enough choice for Prologue 2 owners?

As a fellow owner I can't believe you don't find it powerful
enough! You must have a massive room and like music extremely loud.

Changing valves won't really make it louder, but have
you tried using both 8 and 4 OHM taps?

No, my problems are that my Maggies (MMG's) and my alternate Energy C-2's are both pretty inefficient. The amp will not play the MMG's at all and the Energy, while good, is only a shadow of what they sound like with 150 watt monoblocks...It is not a matter of volume but of what one hears at the volumes I play at.

I have tried both taps without any real success. I suspect the amp will sound magic with something designed for tubes...
