Hello from the East Coast of Canada,

My introduction to hifi was a pair of Grado SR80s about 10 years ago. I recently challenged myself to put a stereo system together for $1000. With some patience and negotiation skills, I ended up with the following;

NAD 3020 original in mint condition
BW 685 V2 speakers (display models) with decent speaker stands
Peachtree Audio Dac.it
Audioquest Rocket 11 speaker cables
Audioquest USB cable
Audioquest Chicago RCA cables.
Audioquest Jitterbug that doesn't work with my DAC.

I'm delighted with the sound, and have been enjoying this system for about 6 months. I'm a music fan first, and love female vocals (jazz, bluegrass, 70s rock, etc). At this point, I mostly play 24 bit FLAC files and will be adding a Rega Planar 2 or 3 shortly. My current setup is in a 12'X12' room, and I don't tend to play my music too loud.

I'm looking at various upgrade paths in the $1500 range that would 'improve' my sound, and have a few options;

1. New tube amp - I love mids. Not sure why all the reviews I read are focused on base...just not my thing (but I certainly appreciate tight base and well rounded sounds). Have heard some friend's tube amps and personally love that sound.
2. Magnepans - Again, the mids. I'm a bit concerned with the 'limited' 20w per channel of the 3020 to power lower impedance.
3. Power Amplifier using the NAD 3020 as a pre-amp.

Thanks in advance!

Julien
