Hello. I have pretty much always liked music, but never really thought about getting a system better than $200 or so. I am 40 years old, and my general music listening habits include streaming audio on amazon or xmradio while on my computer and being in my sitting room/reading room and listening to CD's. Often, I listen to instrumental, jazz, or some odd ball kinds of music in my sitting room.
My general question is...I see that it is pretty cheap to stream a ton of stuff on amazon prime. I do this on my iMac all the time (I am doing it while I am typing here) but I am envisioning my kind of reading room to play primarily CDs. Is there something, for a lack of a better word, odd that I want to purchase a system and basing the system off of CDs as opposed to streaming audio? There is something quaint or perhaps weird that I want physical CDs...am I a relic of the 1990s? What format do you typically listen to music in>?
For the reading room, right now I have a $20 system from walmart. I am thinking about getting a $400 audio engine A5+. Is this a good idea? My understanding is that I will also need a CD player since the speakers are only speakers. Any suggestions for an entry level CD player? I am assuming if I desire, I can attach an iPad or whatever to the speakers so if I want to stream audio to it, I can. Is this generally correct?
I am also a bit confused about speaker placement. Right now, the possible location for the speakers (where my $20 system is now) is diagonal from the chair I primarily use. If I want stereo sound, do I have to place one speaker on either side of me? Due to a rather peculiarly layout of the room and furniture, the speaker will probably always be diagonal to me. Is this a major problem...in other words, will I be wasting my money on a good speaker system if the speakers are not between me?
thanks.
