Why do so few CDP's have digital inputs? Are they expected to change this in light of more servers needing a DAC?
I know there must be many others in the situation I find myself in now. I want to upgrade my CDP in the next year, and have also set up my PC as a server recently. The server is just using an M-audio PCI card since I viewed it as proof-of-concept before spending real money.
So, now I want a good DAC for the server as well as a better CD player. I refuse to plan on buying two DAC's in the near future; one in the CDP and one for the server. The lack of CDP's with an input may push me to only getting an outboard DAC and let the CDP side of the stereo die.
Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy! I'd keep buying CDP's indefinitely if they were also upgrades to the server DAC. I'd probably buy the Rega Saturn this year if it had inputs. Instead I'm not even considering it.
