This is madness. After my experience earlier with the Dorati cassette, for which I was using new settings on the player I decided to take an early cassette of Led Zeppelin's first album I happened to acquire almost by accident with me on my walk around town, which is my want thee days, taking the cassette player along. The cassette blew other versions I've heard including the Japanese vinyl, out of the water, tho a very expensive system of someone down in DC was perhaps close and that was the freaking FLAGSHIP Classe amp, a 200 pounder, driving modded big Magna planers with the 1994 Page remastered CD. Most likely this cassette is actually better. I'm not sure why but Mega Bass ON was like being on steroids,,opening up the bass AND the treble. And guess what? With the Mega Bass ON bass was not boomy or overdone at all. The bass was deep and tight, as I also heard on the Dorati earlier (Mega Bass was ON for that one, too!). The Chrome tape was ON for the Dorati but OFF for the Zeppelin. AVLS was OFF. It's always OFF. Tremendous dynamics, pitch accuracy, resolution and the whole nine yards. And no COMPRESSION. Nothing like those early tube recordings with tube mastering to bring it on home.

Yes, I realize tuning and adjusting has been on the sidelines of late as people get interested in new technologies but you're grasping at straws. I turned AVLS OFF and turned Mega Bass ON. Not even in your most beer soaked dreams are those adjustments. They're either ON or OFF Hel-looo! Otherwise turnijg the unit OFF would be an adjustment according to you. Hey, I didn't even alight the head. So sue me!
