I recently added the Marten Django XL to my system and now I am looking for recommendations on speaker cables (preferably from Marten owners). Anything you can share on your selection process, why you ended up with the cable you have, etc. My system:
Auralic Altair fed by Synology NAS => Balanced out to
Parasound Halo JC2-BP => Balanced out to
Bel Canto ref 1000 M mono blocks

Thanks.

I have tried many speaker cables from many manufacturers over 40 years, and I find most of the claims for them stupid and sometimes ludicrous; completely unverifiable.

Very few of them make any difference at all in my system, and in some cases they actually detract from good sound quality compared to plain pure copper wire.

I am using bi-wired Vandersteen Treo speakers now, and driving them with a Musical Fidelity M6PRX amplifier and Audio Research LS-26 preamp.

I recommend the Monoprice Choice #2747 speaker wire, which is #12 pure copper wire. It costs less than $20 for 50 feet.

I get sound to die for using this setup, and no speaker wires I have tried (even some costing thousands of dollars) have given me any improvement at all; and none is needed, in any case. My system sounds wonderful.

There may be certain amplifiers that would sound better with certain speakers in combination with a certain type of speaker cable, but I suggest that you get the Monoprice #12 copper wire and compare anything you are considering to it. I think you will find that nothing sounds better in the vast majority of cases.

I agree with the endorsement of the Monoprice 12 gauge, particularly for long runs of 10 feet more, where cost becomes a bigger factor. They definitely have nice, airy highs, and a very smooth, dynamic presentation compared to ordinary speaker wire. For a modestly priced system, the $1000 or so you save using these would be better spent on better electronics and speakers IMO.

All data I have seen along with practical experience in my 20 years of doing this is that you need 100% oxygen free copper wire of adequate gauge for the distance your need with adequate insulation so that they don't short out.

Here is a great article that explains it in highly technical terms

Patick-

Jorma cabling is stongly suggested as a sonic match for Marten loudspeakers.

Saying that ANY speaker cable is a "match" for any speaker is nonsense of the highest order.

Patrick, I used to own a pair of Marten Coltrane Alto's, and have heard the Django's along with many other Marten speakers before fwiw. With my Alto's, I found the best combination of cables without going too insane on expenditure were Jorma Origo bi-wire sc's, Origo xlr's & Jorma Prime pc's. Marten speakers are internally wired with Jorma cable, so that combo will give you good synergy and helps overall coherence a bit.

Origo is neutral and natural sounding and made in a similar way to Prime (just with more simplified shieldings). They sound harmonically rich and well balanced also, whilst the Prime pc's have a touch of warmth, sound a bit richer and sophisticated. Those cables are a great value imho. If your budget doesn't reach that high, i'd recommend either Jorma Unity which sounds a bit similar to Prime (ie: has a touch of warmth) or the new Jorma Duality cables which replaced Jorma No 2.

I also think PAD Neptune series cables would be an excellent choice & are great value cables imho.
