Hey Gang,
I have a new Denon AVRX1400H and new B&W ASW608 sub. Trying the B&W M1’s now, but sounds good, but a bit thin. Looking for more depth. Debating between the B&W 706 S2’s or the 707 S2’s. Med-large family/media room that reaches back to the kitchen. 90% music, 10% movies/sports. I don’t mind paying the extra for better sound.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
Thank you!!

IMO there are many better speakers than B & W for less money.

Focal and Wharfedale are very good.

Check out the excellent Focal Chorus 906.

I use the M-1s in my bedroom and am driving them with a small Marantz Network Receiver. They sound great for the price and for what they are but are only adequate for small room unless you are going to have them in a 5.1 or 7.1 system.

The 706s and 707s are very good sounding speakers. The 707s are very inefficient at 84dB and may sound good but will have volume issues. The 706s are a lot more efficient at 88dB and will deliver a fuller, more satisfying sound profile.

If B&W is the brand you want, this is a no brained to get the 706s.

First of all, I would get the B&W 705 S2 if I were you. That decoupled tweeter on top would make big difference sonically. That would be my first choice. Actually the 705 S2 is a sweet spot in the new 700 series S2 in terms of price/performance ratio. The 705 S2 sound quite a bit better than both 706 S2 and 707 S2.

Secondly, if you're only doing two-channels I wouldn't get a receiver, I would get a dedicated stereo integrated amp with onboard DAC so you can connect your av gears to into. For B&W 705 S2 speakers I would highly consider getting the Rotel RA-1592 stereo integrated amp. Retails for $2500. The RA-1592 is Rotel's top of line stereo integrated amp. Has good quality onboard DAC. It is a stellar integrated amp and sounded very good very musical with rich full sound and smooth highs with good rhythm and solid heavy yet controlled bottom end grunt. It will perform and sound better than any AV receivers. Tonally the RA-1592 is on the warmer side of neutral. Has very clean power to drive those B&W 705 S2. It will sound very good on the B&W.
