Hi all,
I've been trolling this forum for a few days now trying to gather as much wisdom/knowledge as I can from this group. While its been fun to look in at the world of audio fetishists, and I would love to fully immerse myself in expensive lush sounds... I'm 25 and the money isn't quite there yet.
About a year ago, I got a pair of Bose quietcomfort 2 headphones and they have made my current living room setup completely unacceptable to my ears. I've decided that with a little more saving I can happily spend about a grand on a system, but this will mean replacing everything I have from my 10 year old Sony speakers and stereo system to my 6 year old 100 dollar Denon turntable.
So, I am wondering if you have any advise for me. I listen to music in my living room (15 x 25) everyday for hours. My primary source is Vinyl and 320kbs MP3s - mostly Rock n Roll or Jazz. I'd like to build something that is somewhat versatile since I am still an apartment dweller and I will be moving often for the next few years. It would also be nice to have something that I can set up in an office when I have the money to get a serious system like you fine people.
Yesterday I took an in-store listen of the Polk Audio RTI A1 speakers. They are in my price range and I've seen some decent reviews. They sounded great, but I forgot to see what sort of amp they were running off.
I've also read good things about the NAD C-315BEE integrated amp as far as budget amplifiers go, but I keep reading here to pick out my speakers before my amp, so maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.
Finally, I am looking at the Pro-Ject Debut III as a turntable to replace the one I have.
Any advise for someone in my situation? I'd appreciate any guidance honing my methodology and any recommendations on products I should consider. Reading through existing threads has already done a lot for me (last week I didn't know what a preamp or power amp were, so I have a lot to learn).
Thanks everybody!
John
