The system i'm upgrading from - what i've had for 19 years - was powered by an early model HT receiver - a JVC RX815V. It's an early Dolby Surround - Pro Logic model.

I do music in 2.1 and home theater in 3.1

I have a TiVo and a Sony BluRay player hooked into it.

For music I have a JVC CD player as old as the receiver.

I listened to quite a number of speakers before deciding on the Sonus faber Venere line. I bought the Venere 3.0 and center.

This old JVC receiver doesn't seem to have enough current to properly drive the sonus faber venere 3.0 The bass is weak and sounds almost like there is something wrong with the woofers. I found that if I use the EQ to subtract mids from the signal the bass sounds pretty good. I've been advised by a few others that I need an amp that delivers more current - that the Venere are a high-phase-angle speaker that require current to drive properly.

So i'm thinking about an amp upgrade. I know very little about them. I've only owned receivers in the past.

The one thing I LOVE about the old JVC is that it remembers my settings for each source. I cannot find any receivers available today that do this. They claim to - but they do not actually remember hardly anything.

For example - I have 5 memory spots for the EQ - I have a few music EQ settings and a Home Theater EQ setting. When I select the BluRay as input the unit moves the volume up, switches on the Pro Logic decoder to 3-channel mode and switches on the EQ to my Movie setting. When I select the CD player as an input the unit turns off the Pro Logic decoder, turns on the loudness and switches the EQ to my Music setting and moves the Volume knob down. So with ONE BUTTON I can change all the settings. It seems like none of the new units do this. They remember some DSP - I honestly do not know what those are - or how that would help me.

What receivers or pre-pros out there today will give me the ability to set it and forget it? I've looked at a few models from Cambridge Audio, NAD, Marantz, Outlaw and Meridian and I don't see anything that's anything like my old equipment. Not surprising. It IS almost 20 years old.

What's a good amp to drive Sonus faber Venere 3.0 ?
