Wharfedale's sound tends to be warm while Klipsch tends to be bright. I find both of them unpleasant. I have never heard the JBLs and have no opinion. You may want to check out the Monitor Audio Bronze or Infinity Primus line. I might actually call Crutchfield and asks their opinion as they carry a few of these products and may offer a POV that could be more helpful and you can return the speakers if you don't like them within 30 or 60 days
I think the Infinity's might have been discontinued. I would look at the Polk RTi's, Elac Debut's and Monitor Audio Bronze's which are all in your price range. Crutchfield carries those Klipsch and JBL speakers along with the three I just mentioned and several other speaker lines though they don't offer Wharfedale. They will be able to best explain the differences though at this point the speaker everyone is raving about and in love with is the Elac.
Mission LX-2 or Q Acoustics 3020
My choice for a speaker under $400 would be the ELAC Debut B6, which Amazon has for $280/pair.
IMO the speakers that compare to them are considerably more expensive.
