Sooo... my computer speakers just took a dive last week and I'm trying to see what I should get as a replacement. My old set was the Creative Inspire 5.1 5300, but I was running with only two speakers instead of the 5.

I'm willing to spend a little more on my next set of speakers / sub, but not by much - probably looking to spend around $100 - $150. Reason for this is that A) I feel like with a little more money, I might be able to get something significantly better and B) I feel like I don't know what I'm missing out on.

Can anyone recommend something in that price range where I'll get the most bang for my buck? I want something as powerful as my old set without breaking the bank. Recommendations for new or used equipment are both welcome.

I listen to whatever music is on, and I play a lot of flight simulators on the computer. I don't really care if I have just a pair of speakers or the 5.1 package. I'm an engineer, so I know that questions like these are pretty open-ended and hard to answer without knowing a lot. Unfortunately, I don't know enough to even think about what questions to answer, so if you have any questions let me know.

Just an "average" listener who doesn't know much about DACs or what "good" audio is supposed to sound like.
