The cone tweeter works great in the Avantera and makes quite a disappearing act. It has no perceivable harshness I sometimes noticed on my Sonics Allegra and on other speakers. Maybe for this reason the speaker is also forgiving with poor recordings and compressed files.

Is there still a "Gerhard" influence in the Audio physic designs? Or did they start with a completely clean slate?

You are right: Gerhard's ghost is still hanging around. The development is rather linear, the cone drivers may be the most significant difference. The bass also goes a lot deeper than it used to in older designs (Avanti, older Virgo). Although the sensitivity is relatively high, lots of watts seem to help get the most out of the lower end.
