Hello. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for decent amps that will help power the Monitor Audio Silver 6 or Silver 8 speakers.
My budget is about U.S.$750.
I was considering these:
Marantz PM6005 (45 Watts RMS at 8 ohms)
Yamaha R-N500 (80 Watts RMS at 8 ohms)
Yamaha AS-501 (85 Watts RMS at 8 ohms)
NAD D 3020 (30 Watts RMS at 8 ohms)
The Marantz seems to generally have a better reputation than the Yamahas on audiophile forums. But the Yamahas have more power and more features, though again the advantage of this seems to be debatable.
As you may have guessed from my choices, both digital (optical and coaxial) and analogue inputs are important for me. I have an Apple TV, Bluray player and plan on buying a turntable.
The power of all the amps are below the minimum suggested for these speakers on Monitor Audio's website. Is that a big problem?
Any other amps with similar features I am missing? I am not able to audition all these models with the speakers mentioned in my city.
The speakers will be used for music/movies 60/40% in a moderately sized room. I don't plan on buying a subwoofer at the moment, so a preout isn't absolutely necessary (the Marantz doesn't have one), but would be nice to have for the future I guess.
Any and all suggestions welcome. Thank you.
