This site has been an amazing resource. I'm a long time vinyl collector and bedroom DJ (yes Shure M44-7 cartridge, technics 1200s, etc).

I recently bought a house and since I know longer had to worry about apartment neighbors, I went out and purchased some Bower & Wilkins 683 speakers after listening to them at Best Buy. I was impressed. I brought them home and they didn't sound nearly as good. I assumed this was due to my old Denon DN-X120 mixer/preamp (cost $100).

I needed a new mixer so I bought a Rane TTM 56S. The sound got MUCH better, but I'm still lacking. I own a Denon AVR-X1300W Receiver.

Here is what I have/plan to do:

I just bought a Shure 97Xe
Buy a Music Hall M2.2 turntable (specifically for listening sessions) and hook my 97xe to it

Will I see a big increase in clarity / quality but doing this? My technics 1200 (w/ DJ mats) and M44-7 carts are surely not ideal (pun intended).

I can't find much info on the phono stage in the Rane Mixer, but it gets great reviews for sound quality. I'd also like to keep my Denon amp as it is only 1 year old. Unless you think this could be holding back my system.

Any help, comments, and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

i also plan to buy a definitive technology supercube 2000. I thought this was the best sounding subwoofer at Best Buy. Yes Best Buy is where I go to get my gear. The local store has a great Magnolia section and they have been helpful. I'm new to Florida and haven't found audio shops like in California.
