In my opinion there are two albums that are the best of the best of jazz: one is All Blues by Miles Davis the other Blue Train by John Coltrane. This week Columbia released the 50th Anniversary box set of All Blues and although it is pricey at $80 it is worth the price of admission.

Enclosed in the box set are 2 CD's, a DVD, a vinyl pressing of the album in blue vinyl, a hardcover book along with a poster and prints from the set recording. I listened to the CD's last night and it sounds better than ever along with some outtakes and never before released material by the band with John Coltrane and Cannonball Aderly.

It's hard to believe that this album is 50 years old and one has to wonder if it maybe possibly the greatest jazz recording of all time. I would have love to seen this original band perform but the sound will surely keep the members as alive today as they were back then
