To test whether a listener can hear any differences between audio components, the ABX test was invented. Critics say it was designed (intentional or unintentionally ) as a 'no win' type of test. The fact that anybody who takes the test, no matter what experience they may have ,seem to fail at detecting any differences every time .The most famous is the stereo review (Do All Amplifiers Sound the Same? published in the January, 1987 issue.) , where an OTL amp was compared to some levenson amp and a cheap plastic face pioneer reciever to some other amps, and of course no one heard any difference. Im skeptical because the poor damping of the OTL amp alone should have been a give away that it a tube amp and should have stood out like a sore thumb. So the question is has anybody ever taken the infamous ABX test and passed??
