>> 2. Audible Differences That We Can Finally Measure…
Understanding what we hear. For years, despite being able to hear what cables contribute to system performance, conventional measurement techniques have been unable to explain why they are so important. This has led many “scientific” commentators to dismiss cables, despite the observational evidence to the contrary and the basic logic that governs the situation; if you can hear it but you can’t measure it, get some better measurements. We have embarked on an independent research program to examine the audible effects of cables on system sound. Carried out by a UK-based defense contractor specializing in advanced signal processing techniques, the first fruits of this research don’t just begin to explain both the magnitude and mechanism of cable sound, they also help explain why we haven’t been able to measure it using the approaches applied to ordinary audio equipment. The implications of this go far beyond cables, throwing a harsh light on the performance of electronics too. You can read a more comprehensive account of this research on the Nordost site so, if you want numbers and graphs to prove what cables can do, you’ll find them in the Downloads directory at www.nordost.com.
