I'll have to check with JA to be sure (he remembers these things better than anyone), but I think it was Thursday, August 10, 2000 — exactly six years ago — that I first sat down in front of a computer screen for Stereophile.

Your enthusiastic response has inspired Kristina to come out of blog-retirement. She could only stay away for an evening. Ladies and gentlemen, it seems she may be hooked. Any suggestions for an amp and CD player?

In her final blog entry, Kristina asks for your expert opinion. The girl needs a new pair of speakers. I think she's looking for something "wicked cute," as they say in Boston.

VMAX Services' Richard Kohlruss followed-up with some information on Tangent Audio. Here's how the CD-100 looks on the inside.

I see her from across the pool. She's tall and beautiful and dressed all in white.

I have to say that I'm a wee bit disappointed.

I haven't listened yet, but I'm already happy. I'm fighting the urge to just set the stuff up right here, right now, in my office.

Also, I made one other change when I removed the Ayre gear from my system: I switched from the Ayre–supplied and –spec'd Cardas cables to Furutech Evolutions. Incidentally, it was right around this same time that I read Jay Rein's essay on system synergy.

I've been working on the Buyer's Guide. Again, I find myself getting all tangled up in the content. Goodness me. My focus shifts away from the cold cells. I lose sight of borders, completely forget about column width. And find myself wondering:

What can I say about cables?

The thing about Tuesday is that I've got my therapy session at 6pm. I spend the day processing submissions for our Buyer's Guide. I go through each Excel spreadsheet making sure things look the way they're supposed to. It's a tedious, generally unfulfilling, task. A task measured out in columns, rows, and cells. I have found no way to incorporate art or love. I transfer the tidied files from one folder on our server to another. Cut and paste. Control X, Control C. Kristina then collects the new file and transfers it to a Master spreadsheet. It is a strange kind of communication, this digital dance we do.

Up at 9am. No shower, no shave. Coffee. I sat down on my orange couch, opened the laptop and got to it. One more day of "Recommended Components."
