Zoom h2 digital recorder

Hi, first post here. I was just wondering if anyone here has any experience with the Zoom H2 digital Recorder? I was thinking about buying one. Sounds like a good deal for the money. Does anyone know where you could download sound files to hear?

Re: Zoom h2 digital recorder

If you place "Zoom H2" in a search engine, you should find demonstration files. I thought Zoom had these files on their web page but possibly not; it's been awhile since I did the research for the recorder. I own a H2 and so far have been quite happy with the unit though my expereience in the field is still limited to only a few recordings. I don't think you can beat the unit for what its meant to do at anywhere near the price. What you want to get from it must be within the limits of the unit however, or, like any other tool, it will fail at the task. What are you expecting it to do?

I know two people with them, both electric guitarists with lots of playing and recording experience.

They love'em.

It has great sound for the money. Sure it is limited in fidelity, but for practice and field recordings these critters are great.

For a bit more money I would go with the M-Audio Microtrack II I think. For lots more money, the Sound Devices 702 looks fun.

Pro Audio Review covered a bunch of these guys a bit ago (they have an online edition).

Thanks guys. I have a Gibson L5 acoustic guitar from the late 40's, and just want to record myself to play over my audio system.

Received a new Zoom H2 Digital Recorder for Christmas. This thing is incredible! Lightweight, compact, and easy to use, the sound quality is first rate! Packed with more features than I'll ever use, I see my Nakamichi tape deck collecting dust soon.

I'd say it's about 35% bigger than a pack of cigarettes. It weights 4 oz. The sound is superb. You can record direct off any audio device, it has built in limiters, compressors, and will even convert a wav file to an mp3. It can also normalize a file. It has a complete operating system, so you can rename, delete, or get info on any file. It can record for over 6 hours at 44.1/ 16 bit. The options are 44.1 /16, 44.1/24, 48/ 16, 48/24,96/16, 96/24, plus mp3 up to 320. All this and more for $199.99. It just blows me away. I remember when you could spend 10 times that much , and not record nearly as well. Where is this all going?

Not sure where it's going but it's coming from China.

Just got an H2 for Christmas. Recorded a couple of tunes. Looking for tips on improving the sound. I think the H2 is great little unit. Thanks, Ray

Nice couple of clips.

What are you using to record besides the H2 and how do you have things set up?

Re: Zoom h2 digital recorder

I've only used mine twice but have been reasonably impressed by my intial recordings.

I'm wondering if the H2 can manage upsampling. I get the feeling it can't but it does have the ability to record in 96kHz/24 bit resolution. Now wouldn't it be cool if this little $200 unit could serve as an upsampling D/A processor?
