Yelling back at the TV

With respect to this thread elsewhere on the Stereophile forum ( Computer Audio thread) I began to think about the role of public forums here on the internet. My basic feeling is that these forums provide one with a way of "yelling back at the TV" or in other words a way for one to counter much of the complete nonsense that we get fed day after day. Be it in the form advertising or news or whatever.

Here's an example: the latest round of Chrysler commercials where they talk about "reinventing the company". I all want to yell back at the TV is "what reinvention, you went bankrupt and are now owned by Fiat!!!"

Another example: trying to tell me that anyone on American Idol can actually sing. I would bet dollars to donuts that the great K.D. Lang wouldn't make it past the first round. So much for American Idol and singing ability.

And so I like to use these public forums as a way to fight back against that steady diet of misinformation and just plain lies that we're constantly being fed. Sure it often comes out as ranting but behind those rants is someone trying to say "bull shit!!" And many times I'm proven to be wrong or mistaken but I least get to make them prove me wrong.

I wonder if someone like DUP understood this and that's why he was often yelling that the emperor had no clothes, albeit with all too often an overly harsh tone. In any event, I will keep on doing my best to "yell back at the TV" whenever I'm being fed a line of BS and in the world of high end audio the BS is never ending.

But would you want an actual TV with some kind of Stereophile emulator chip that caused it to make excuses for its own BS while trying to make it look like you are the problem?

Instead of calling the station and complaining about the program, I'd turn the channel to something I like.

Actually, I have no television. Haven't had one in years. So in effect, "channel 0" is my favorite .

So...you're yelling back at a tv that isn't even there? That's just crazy! (I'm gonna ride this metaphor all the way out).

Ah, but a metaphorical TV need not actually exist.

Dang, that was profound (pats self on back). I should be a Stereophile writer!
