From the reputations of those products it should be a very musical system. Have you stopped into a local dealer and had a listen to any of it?

I have not had a chance to listen to them locally yet, but I certainly will. Thanks for the input. Anyone else have more advice?

Those are solid components. Perhaps an excellent choice
but,
I would check out "in room" speaker performance first.
If you can find a good dealer who can supply you with most of the items you have selected and then ask him to let you try the Epos and perhaps two other options, one being a floorstander like a Monitor Audio Bronze just for one day.

Speaker / room interaction is a highly underestimated subject and a quick survey over 3 or four songs will point you in the right direction swiftly.

Happy listening!

Thanks for the response, I guess I'm going to need to find a good store to check all this stuff out. Any tips on speaker placement for a small, square bedroom? (10x10).

I would consider the Outlaw receiver since it already has a phono stage, more power and very positively received in audio circles. It's also quite versatile with modern thinking built in. I think it's around $650 and is periodically on sale.

I'd use the extra savings to go for a more ambitious table if you are dedicated to vinyl. The Epos speakers are about right in this price range for a system. My tastes lean more toward PSB speakers for a budget system, but that's not taking anything away from Epos, just reflecting my tastes in the compromises.

How much you spend on the table will depend on how much you use it as the primary source. The Rega would be fine if you have a thin LP collection and use digital source material more often than the table.

Thanks for the input...this is interesting as I plan the opposite, to pretty much solely listen to vinyl on this setup...what would be a good turntable in that regard?

I'm not qualified to suggest any particular table, others around here are far more experienced with the better tables. I do have a Rega in my system and while it's pleasant, it's far from being a serious contender for someone who enjoys vinyl as their primary source. I also used an NAD phono stage with it for a very brief time. The NAD pre is sorely lacking in excitement and just a tad better than the average phono stage in budget integrateds. I replaced it with a McCormack and it was a worthwhile exchange even with the budget Rega.

I would look at Fremmer's and Dudley's reviews and Stereophile's recommended components for a step up in performance that still fit my budget, but I wouldn't be afraid of spending half my budget on the table set-up. The Outlaw is high value and entry level speakers are quite capable of delivering great sonics these days.

Thanks again Monty. The PSB Alpha B1 monitors seem to be reviewed very well. I'll keep them in mind along with the Outlaw as I begin to search for this stuff in person. Anybody have any turntable suggestions as per Monty's post?

troypozi,

I have the Music Hall 25.2 amp and cdp along with the els 3 speakers. Marvelous sound! Depending on the size of your room however you may want to consider a different speaker. The Epos M5 sounds great as does the Monitor Bronze that someoene else emntioned.

Hey everyone, this is my first post. I have been getting into vinyl lately through a Technics Sl-D2 turntable connected to a crappy BBE phono preamp going into a bose wave cd player aux input. As would be expected, I'm craving something a little more hi-fi. I would like to keep the price under $2000. Here's what I have come up with...any suggestions?

Rega P1 Turntable
Music Hall A25.2 integrated amp
Epos ELS 3 Mini Monitor Speakers
NAD PP2 phono stage

any suggestions?

Hey, welcome to the forum, troypozi. I recently fell in love with vinyl, too. In theory, you've put together a great system, but as the others have suggested, it's always a good idea to listen to a few different options, if possible. FWIW, I own and love the PSB Alpha B1s. If you want to spend more money on the 'table, you can move up to the Rega P3. I also own and love the P3-24, which comes in gloss finish and includes an outboard power supply for greater speed stability and the option to switch between 33 and 45rpm on the fly. Costs a bit more, though.

In any case, you're on a great path. I think you're going to have a lot of fun.

Roadster,
do you listen to any vinyl on your setup? Also do you feel the ELS3's are adequate for a small bedroom?
