I have a Kenwood 5.1 surround receiver I've owned for about ten or so years. Now it's gone belly up and I want to switch to a more modern surround system for under $300.00 if I can swing it. I've been looking at Yamaha, Denon and Harmon Kardon on Ebay. Also keep in mind that I'll be running a turntable so it'll need a phono hook up. Does anyone have a better suggestion or experience with any of these components? I'll probably go ahead and buy new cd and dvd player as well. And thanks to all who have answered my questions, I am kinda new at this. And learning.....

There are some good buys at Best Buy etal at this level. I think some of the Harmon Kardon units include a usable phono stage. Check before you buy. There are a number of internet sites that sell new for good prices such as One Call. You can even try Amazon as many vendors offer goods thru them. Many of the new ones are up from 5.1 to 6.1 and 7.1 so you may need some extra speakers if you wish. Even at this price level it makes watching TV and movies much more fun.
