No such thing as too much power available. If your car has 400HP, do you use it all teh time, no, but when you need that kick it's there. anything less than about 1200w per amp is under powered. It comes alive with more control and opens up more watts, better sound. Like people who buy their first motorcycle, they always buy too small, in 2 weeks, they outgrow it and get a real motorcycle, with some engine and mass. Amps are the same way, buy more, something that provides poower for any situation.
Well, I just brought home a Crown Xti2000 rated at 475 watts per channel into 8 ohms. If my speakers are rated at 250 watts rms is this amp a good match? I really don't want to fuse the speakers, because I don't want the damping factor to be affected.
Tony, unless you have very low sensitivity loudspeakers (less than 86 db) together with a hugh room to play them in
rest assure your ears will blow before your loudspeakes
That Crown is more like 450 Watts RMS per channel, both channels driven into 8 Ohms at 20-20000Hz @ 0.05% THD which is a rating similar to what audio equipment uses rather than the 1kHz @ 0.1% THD rating pro audio often uses. Still more than enough to drive you out of the house with fairly efficient speakers, but well short of DUP's standard of at least 1200 watts.
Dup has standards ?!?!?!?!?
Thanks guys. I think this amp will do the trick.
NICE!!!!! Crown, brings real power at mortal priced stuff. Are you sure the AC line cord is good enough, since what does Crown designers know about amplifiers? I'm sure they gave it a poor sounding wire. Many live events have stacks and stacks of CROWNS, Starland Ballroom 32,000 WATTS worth!!!
Yes, high standards, reality based, on MORTAL ideas., and prices.
