Output music via Ethernet cable

I am trying to figure out how to do this, I appreciate the help.

First, I am trying to use a DAC707 and output to my project head box. Foobar is my software. I hooked the 707 from a port on my router into its "ctl" port. The 707 just hums and the input light does not come on. I dont think I am missing anything on the hardware side? I think I just dont know how to setup the software end of things.

Thanks for the help
chris

As far as I can tell, the only inputs to the DAC707 are S/PDIF over coax and toslink. I have no idea what the purpose of the RJ-45 connector labeled "ctl" might be. Hope your sound card or laptop has an S/PDIF out.

Is it a RJ45? Never heard of it. I just saw what looked like a E-port and worked with it. Though I use my 707 with my CD player right now anyway, so its not a big deal.

I am I guess more curious about how this is done, via USB, Toslik etc. I don't think foobar makes it easy. Mabey someone else has tried

audiomangus(Mike) says "The RJ45-looking jack is for balanced input. (We're making up some special cables with XLR terminations for these. "

Probably aes/ebu.

If your computer's motherboard does not have an integrated digital output (TosLink or Coax) you will need to add a soundcard that has the necessary outputs. Foobar happily works with any soundcard.

Good catch ScottGardner!

I have to say I really don't understand this design choice, there is no AES3 hardware standard embracing the RJ45 connector so why not just use a normal 3-pin XLR? Impedance is the key characteristic for AES3 and I can only imagine it will be very hard to ensure correct impedance matching with this connector.

And 'CTL' for a balanced digital input??
