Lennie Niehaus Volume 1-The Quintets

This is Lennie's first album and with 3 sax players, bass, piano, drums and trumpet support this album swings and is extremely tight. None of the tracks are very long and the CD itself is only 39:13 in length but after listening to just a few tracks you will find yourself saying out loud "whew" ! This album was recorded in LA in 1954 right after Lennie got out of the Army and the melodies will have you snapping your fingers to keep the beat. The recording is pristine, clean and does not sound overly digital on my Arcam Solo. I highly recommend this CD for anyone who likes classic tight jazz that flows with great melodies *****
