Find another speaker for your center-channel and find a home theater receiver (5.1) you can afford and enjoy for the the time being. Check www.accessories4less.com or www.jr.com for some good pricing.

"Over the holidays, friends who came around and heard them were amazed by how closely the Synergy F2 sounded like the La Scala. Actually, three of them recently bought La Scalas and the general consensus was that the F2 had 80% of the La Scala signature but blended it with finer resolution and faster transient speed. Modern technology has definitely brought their specs up to date. With a sensitivity of 95.5dB, impedance of 8 ohms and frequency response of 39 - 23,000Hz +/- 3 dB and boasting a front-ported bass reflex, the Synergy F2 is one amplifier-friendly and easy-to-place speaker."

Robert,

If that was your place I was about to be incredibly envious. I'll bet your system would still leave me that way.

I beginning to feel much better.

I have been having a bit of trouble finding a receiver. I am aiming to firstly (in order of importance)

-hook up my ipod/computer
-a record player (yet to be purchased)
- television/dvd players (both new samsung)

and hopefully balance out my speakers in an awesome way!

The Onkyo TX-SR607 is good entry level AV receiver with iPod connectivity with its U Port iPod dock ($65). For vinyl you would need a phono preamp. The Audio Technica AT-PEQ3 phono preamp is a real overachiever at $44. The Onkyo TX-SR607 is $280 refurbished from accessories4less.

You can get a Klipsch Synergy C-1 center channel speaker right now at Vanns for $77 delivered.

jf -

Your feelings on mixing brands, exclusive of subs? I know the general wisdom is 'don't,' but with a modest setup, is it really awful to mix, say, PSBs and Paradigms?

(I'm assuming one wouldn't do something obviously strange, like put C-Vs in front and Polks in the rear...)

wowza, those components seem incredibly inexpensive ... that scares me a bit...

I do appreciate the recommendation, & will investigate them & their availability in Canada for sure

I found a Onkyo 7.2 Channel AV Receiver (TX-SR608) for a good price, I wonder if that will do the trick

That's a great unit but 2 channel only. Even though it has the phono section built in, you would still need something on the order of JF's recommended 5.1 reciever to accomodate your Ipod and TV/Movie needs. Better to start with that and cover all your needs, or at least all accepting turntable. BTW that is a discounted $500.00 unit and I don't see how you could better JF's product suggestion considering bang for the buck.

If you later decide to upgrade your music only 2-channel performance and add the turntable, adding the Marantz to the Onkyo makes more sense and is a popular way to integrate a surround sound and higher quality 2-channel system.

It really comes down to the order of your priority.

Sadly, I can't take advantage of those awesome sites Jim recommended because I am in Canada ...

I found a place here that is willing to deal on this once it comes out:

ya, i was looking that that one initially, but was told by the three stores in my area that an ipod adaptor would cost from 250-300 for that model, so i thought it would make more sense to wait for a newer model where it was included?
