JBL 1400 Array

First, it's humbling to see a JBL horn on the cover of Stereophile !! I wonder how many JBL horns have graced this magazine's cover. I'll bet this is the first one.

In his review, Mr. Greenhill didn't mention that this design is open to the rear ("open baffle") as I think they are. Also, the reviewer stated that the 1400 peaks-out at 110db...this, with an 89db rating. I would think this is impossible - or maybe *possible* but loaded with distortion !!

Not as far as I am aware. The woofer is in a ported enclosure; the horns fire to the front alone.

That was an excellent measurement section, JA.

"Good grief!" is right!

The measurement section was a fun read, and dovetailed nicely with the review.

Next up, an article on how the reviewer tamed his bass hump!

I've been tuning out a bit on many products because of the price creep of the last several years (not your fault,) but if those were the same price as the little Klipsch that EL reviewed I'd run out and buy buy buy!

(Again, not casting aspersions, just a little burned out on prices. Does that part of the hobby ever get to you?)

Hello Buddha

It's not as bad as it looks, at least not in my room. If you run the actual T/S in a box program you will see that the bass is very solid to about 35hz where it rolls off. They don't sound bass heavy but it's there down to the low 20's with room gain.

If you look around there have been a couple of used pairs floating around at very ressonable prices

Oh, now you are evil.

OK, I'm gonna go looking.

The review was right up my alley in how things were described.

Thanks!
