I'm Seeking for Music

I'm kind of bored of seeing the same stuff over and over again on iTunes, and I know that there are a lot of people from around the world on this board, so let me know what's new and cool or old and good from where yall are from. I want to hear some new stuff (and unlike most Americans I am open to music that I've never heard of before, even if it's in a language I don't speak.
What are you listening to?

It's hard to recommend audio gear and even harder to recommend music. Never-the-less, I'll offer up something different that you will either love or hate.

Musical Star Streams

You might also want to check out some of the Latin music coming out of South America.

Hi Bernard.
Lately, I've been listening to:

1. The Good, The Bad, & The Queen
I wrote a little review of the album here.

2. The Dears
I mentioned The Dears here.

3. The Fucking Champs
I picked their album, IV, as a Record to Die For. The new album, VI, is relentlessly powerful.

Monty: Some fascinating sounds at Musical Star Streams. I'll be giving it more of a listen.

Always have liked South American Latin; any recommendations?

Steven: Back in the late 80's, early 90's, I heard The Dears at a local bar. They performed mid-late '50's Rock-A-Billy. Very entertaining...same band, possibly?

Hmm, I'm not sure. There's just a touch of a '50's sound in this Dears' music. And their first album came out in 2000, so I'm thinking you saw a different Dears.

Mike, try this site for numerous choices. I prefer the jazz leaning style over the salsa stuff. You can sample to find your particular flavor.

I should have checked out the website you referenced, before responding. You are correct, Stephen, I saw a different The Dears. The band that I heard was a husband/wife duo, in their mid-forties at the time, out of Texas.

The group you referenced does sound interesting...I'll be sure to hear what they have to offer.

Re: I'm Seeking for Music

Monty, thanks a million! I had a chance to skim through some of the artist's work...most enjoyable. Like yourself, I have a preference for the jazz oriented style...especially the soft, suttle kind one would listen to while trying to smooze...well, you know what I mean.

I'll deffinately be going back to this site to discover some more sounds. Thanks again.

No worries. Your Dears sound very interesting, too. I love husband/wife duos.

How about Mars Volta? Any one of their three albums offers a good mix of progressive rock (with an occasional sax thrown in). They do get self-indulgent on some of the tracks, and some people don't like the singer's voice, but I think the music is great, and different enough from regular rock music.

Stephen -
Thanks for the intro to GBQ. Some fine music there.
Which albums of theirs have a lot of instrumentals?

Hi MJS.
Actually, there's only the one GBQ album. I'm glad you're enjoying it, too. (I was listening to it earlier today.)

Re: I'm Seeking for Music

Not sure what you listen to, but I'll just list what I've been listening to lately...

Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime (out of print maybe?)
Ricky Fitts - 7" EP (Init Records)
The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I (Desoto Records)
The D Plan/Juno Split EP (Desoto Records)
The Blood Brothers - ...Burn, Piano Island, Burn (Reincarnate Music)
Merzbow - Merzbox (Extreme Records)
Boris - Akuma No Uta (Southern Lord)

A lot of different type stuff there... hope you find something you like.
