Re: I'd like to be FIRST

Okay, Pantagruel, this is a good one. I have a special Norton hat that I wear on the golf course only if I know in advance that I'll be playin' with high society. Anybody who remembers Norton is okay, I guess. But I AIN'T buyin' no stinkin' AVA/Legacy system, OKAY??!!! And stop makin' fun of my output tube!

July?? You want JULY, when it's barely the Ides of June?? When the poor starvin' folks on the other side of the planet haven't even seen JUNE yet??? Bwahahahahaha.

Re: I'd like to be FIRST

Jackie Gleason and Art Carney where GREAT!!! The Honeymooners was an original, it's the basis for so many that came later, the plots that never pan out, the husband who always has a scheme that always backfires, and the nutty neighbor, some whacky characters. Can still watch it now over 40 years later and is FUNNY!!! When he was getting ready to play teh piano, he kept limbering up, with his hands, and Ralph goes balistic on him!!! That sticks in my head forever...And the Royal order of Racoons!!!! And i ain't all that old, I seen it as a kid, when it was current, great stuff in syndication, see, great stuff survives....Where will P Diddy and hip hop crap be in 10 years...gone, poof, hopefully less than 10, so the real music can return

Yo, Dr. Strange -- welcome to the forum. I must say, you're lookin' rather sinister this morning. All I have left to say on this topic is, the sooner the July issue arrives, the sooner I'll grow another month on my time line. Everything good in life is a mixed blessing, eh? Beats the alternative. DUP, be careful what you wish for...more freezin' and burnin' for the cable-of-the-month, and (if we're lucky) another $100,000 record wheel. Happy Monday, everyone. Clifton

No, No, and another No, just in case you ask something else. Are you like young and unemployed?

You didn't answer DUP's question. And Norton is as timeless as Hamlet. Careful, or you might get hit with a can of prune juice.

Don't know about that guy, but I'm young and unemployed! wooooo hooooo!

However I did just graduate with my MS in Double Blind testing (not kidding its an MS in Biostatistics & evaluative clinical science, all about clinical trials!)

I will be going to med school, so that makes me over educated and under employed at present.

Hurah!

I have to say Dup your posts have the most swagger of the regular contributors.

alas i was one, and then took a break from internet forums (see masters thing above) Perhaps it is time to enjoy the banter and wisdom of the S'phile forums once again.

to arms to arms, my kingdom for a horse.

Just can't get that swagger down.

alright, that is one useless post.

I haven't gotten my issue yet. I also need to renew very soon.

Re: I'd like to be FIRST

Buy gold and silver. 50% of your spare cash, each month, with fanatical precision. The other 50% should be in short term (2 years and less) Treasuries. Sell the gold at $1500 per ounce, the silver at $75. They will go higher, but you can't pick the top, so get out early. Use the profits to lock in higher rates. If you have a 401k, do NOT buy your employer's stock with your own matching funds. Buy a house when the zit-faced loons on CNBC scream the housing market has had it. Live in the house. Do not count on Social Security. It will either go bankrupt or be paid in monopoly money. Enjoy life. Listen to a lot of Mozart, Haydn, and Bach -- boogie to whatever turns the babes on. Always wear a condom, even to work. I am truly sorry we gaffers left this mess for you young guys to work out, but, hey! Challenges build character! Best of luck, Clifton.

Don't worry about it. I'm sure we'll screw it up just as bad for the generations after us.

There is no NEXT GENERATION, it's been canceled!!!! Everything has been done worth doing. The 50's and 60's where it, it's been all down hill from then. Just look at the current S**T that's being called music!!!! Man, has humanity slid into a world of non creative, sludge. Beatles, Rolling Stones, donovan, Dob Dylan,Jefferson Airplane, Roy Buchannan, albert King, SRV,Hendrix,Rory Gallagher, Doors,ELVIS!!! Come on, it's now a sludge pond of droned on processed garbage, there is no more music, there is nothing for any "next" generation to work from. We need to go back to teh ruuts, BLUES, Muddy Waters, buddy Guy, albert King, SRV,Hendrix, creativity and originality, not some my BIT** is a HO, nonsense, mumbling nitwits, with the apparant literary abilitys of a piece of plywood. If the trend continues, there is no more music. Doesn't matter what format, Jeeeez, the Cowsills was music compared to the nonsense done now. Mel Torme' is more listenable then 32 Cent and his Posse'

Is that a Purcell reference?

you should pick up Shaq's CD, just to tempt you DUP I can provide a taste of the lyrical mysticism he wraps you in.

"nick nack shaq-attack give a dog a bone"

pretty good huh!

although it dosn't quite have the same weight and depth as William Shatner's (my attempt at a relevent star trek reference given your first line) 1968 rendition of "lucy in the sky with diamonds" now that will bring a tear to your eye.

luckely all the swill from the past century is easier to filter out than the tripe they serve up on mtv 99.9% of the time. then again any fool who believes mtv and the like acurately represent what the younger generation is doing musically probably enjoys their fair share of swilled nostalgia.

just my 2 cents, and no I don't have a posse.

I'm sure the generation before you said the same thing about your music and the generation after me will say the same thing about mine. I believe there will always be new great music whether the pessimists decide to hear it is up to them.

Re: I'd like to be FIRST

There is a story. It may be apocryphal, but I choose to believe it. Bruckner is walking with an academic, by a strand. They are discussing trends in music. The academic is talkative, convincing, animated, and pessimistic. Bruckner is reflective and agreeable. "There is no possibility for the new," says the critic, "since harmonic schemes and notation are finite, and all has been exhausted." "Look," cries Bruckner, "another wave is breaking in."
