When I was a kid, I would have had a fit over this.

It's all about the sound.
The casing is made up of Turbinium, the model T-101 came supplied with a rigid endoskeleton design, but could also be had with an organic exterior to better match its surroundings.
Later models, the T-800 and T-1000 used a mimetic metal alloy that allowed a much greater range of cosmetic appearances.
The mere fact that they exist demonstrates that we were not successful at preventing their manufacture - much like Carrot Top.
I'm glad you said "sound" and not music
Could the MP3 fad been lessened with models like:
Buzz Lightyear
Woody
Barbie
Vampires
Freddie Kruger
Tron
And the ever popular Hooters model or the..never mind.

Hmmm, I suppose if a CDP had offered a vertical slot....well, double never mind.

See, once I got to that last line I knew I was in trouble.
Just imagine how many pink Barbie player would have been sold at Christmas time. If they had made them DVD players...
Of course I would have wanted to Lego Indiana Jones model. Oh, shoot, the Starship Enterprise!

For the minimalist audiophile.
That is way cool!
Coupled with an 85 pound external power supply and AC conditioner, I hear the sound is amazing!

Someone has got to ask the obvious (dumb) questions ... it must be my turn.
Does that play at 33, 45, 78 and "warp" speed? And, of course, does the player use "inertial dampers" to control wow and flutter?
Lastly, should you choose to share your LP with friends, does it "beam or transport" the LP to their location?

I did have opportunity to try out the Hooters model. After inserting the MP3 and depressing the start button ... well let's just leave it with .. I'm not allowed back at that restaurant, ever.

Isn't that the most appropriate player in the world for Emerson Lake & Palmer's - Brain Salad Surgery album?

That baby is so good, if you look closely you will se it can track a record label!

What, no USB output. Piece of crap! How can you run that into the Ayre QB-9?

Well, it makes sense: in 2029, USB outputs will be "heritage" products and no longer supported.

Well son-of-a-bitch ... Now I have GOT to get one of these. I have a huge collection of labels that I haven't heard since the late 70's. Label's, the final frontier. These are the playings of the USS CDP. It's five year mission, to seek out new record labels, to boldly track where Lyra's fear to go ... damn, I need professional help.

Can I have a Helen Thomas model please?
Can I have a Helen Thomas model please?
Afghanistan would probably jump at the opportunity to make an an ugly cdp out of her because they realize the digital information on the CD would have been overrun with her spewing anti-semetic propaganda.

How far off can another Halloween movie be. Freddie Kruger meets the White House Press Corp.

I don't know Jim, that just doesn't seem very fair to Freddie

What happened??
For $22,000 you can own this SACD player from Harman International with the uncommonly small Mark Levinson name on it. The model is a 512 if anyone cares. I don't.
ML gear has been known over the last couple of decades for producing some of the most beautifully handcrafted, machined aluminum housings around. I was afraid this would happen when Madrigal Audio Laboratories sold out to Harman International. Also, if you go to the ML site you will see only 4 products being offered; the no.53 mono amp, 532 dual mono amp, 512 CD player, 326S preamp. and a couple of some home theatre pieces. A reduction in products is not a good sign to me.
$22,000 for this thin square box that looks no different than a CD player from Target or Best Buy? This is an all-time low for Mark Levinson products IMHO.
Now from what I read, there are some nice things going on internally, but how would someone be able to sell this ugly box for $22,000 retail against an older ML 31 or 31.5 for alot less than half the price with virtually the same topology but housed in the unique, traditional thick beautiful machined aluminum chassis?
sad...very sad.
The 'old' ML 31 from Madrigal Audio Laboratories:
Give me this 'older' version over the 'new' bland version anyday.
Mark Evans
When I first saw the 512 I thought it was an NAD...same color. Right you are, Mark, this ML has no distinction. Kind of like the newer Jags...they look like some many other autos.
