Although this CD was reviewed in the last issue of Stereophile I just wanted to add my thoughts. Mr. Brecker passed away from cancer earlier this year and was a very gifted sax player. This new CD, which was released yesterday, is a great piece of music with a support cast that includes Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Jack DeJohnette and John Patitucci. Although at times the CD can sound a little heavy on the high end it is a wonderful tribute to one of the all time greata sax players. Little by little we seem to be losing the great artists that make hi fi worth listening to.
Haven't had the pleasure of listening to the new CD, I will pick it up this weekend. Just wanted to piggyback on your sentiments relative to losing the great ones. I had the privilege of Seeing Michael with Directions in Music just before he found out he was sick, and he was absolutely fabulous. I sat close to the front and Michael had such a wonderful sense of humor which came accross strong when he performed. It was an unforgettable evening and such a shock when we lost him. Thanks for remembering.
