Is this a good turntable? Worth $160 in good condition?
One sold on eBay tonight for $137.50 to someone with a username similar to yours. 2 others recently sold for $327.99 and $355.00. The turntable obviously has its fans and following, but to be honest, I suspect money like that would probably be better spent on some of the more modern designs often recommended here. Unless you plan on mounting a newer arm on a 1245, I would think in its original form, there would be some sonic compromises. But, the real test with any gear is in the listening. It's been ages since I've heard a Dual (and I'm not even sure it was a 1245.) For $137.50 you probably did all right... but, I'd try to audition some newer decks.
Really a hard question!
Assuming the platter and arm bearings are OK, which you can't tell from a picture, and assuming the motor is OK and the belt is fresh, it could be just great.
Give it a thorough once over, see how the arm play is and how well it balances and if it travels freely, and then pop on your cartridge and see how it sounds!
It may have better parts and polish than some of the newer introductory tables that are priced at the entry level.
It was a nice piece in its day, it may still sing for ya!
(EDITED to spell "arm" correclty.
