After reading M. Fremer's article a thought occurred to me, does anybody make a preamp that does the RIAA equalization in the digital domain? It seems like it might be a better way than the usual active/passive route. I remember a Theta Digital preamp that was a preamp with a built in DAC. I'm surprised that a phono wasn't added too.

I'm wondering what would be the impact on sound quality with two conversions (A->D, then D->A)?
I'm guessing that the benefits could be potentially greater than the negatives.
It would be similar to inserting a digital equalizer in the system; some people seem to like these a lot.
