Custom Built Proac response speakers.

A guy I know at work is selling his custom built floor standing speakers. He claims that they contain the proAc response 2.5 speakers and paradigm monitor 7.

From looking on the internet I have only seen response 2.5 (D.I.Y) clones included in custom built cases.

Is it likely that these speakers are genuine or homemade?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Custom Built Proac response speakers.

Sounds suspect to me. They may contain the same drivers (individual drive units) as the Proac Response 2.5s and Monitor 7s, but why would anyone combine two full-range speaker designs in a single cabinet? In this case, I suspect that more means worse.

This isn't to say that there aren't some good DIY clones of manufactured loudspeakers out there -- there are, and some are probably hard to beat pricewise -- but this sounds like a Taint product: T'ain't one thing or the other.
