I am in the market for a pair of in-ceiling speakers to use as surrounds. There is a huge variety of such speakers at all price points. Hard to know where to begin. Any suggestions?

You want to match your front speakers as closely as possible. A great way to do that is to buy speakers from the same manufacturer, hopfully from the same series. Other than that you will notice a tonal shift as sounds move from front to back shattering the illusion of good surround sound.
