California Guitar Trio

Unlike consumer shows, live music at a CES is a rarity, so it was a treat to listen to the California Guitar Trio performing at the party Harman threw to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Mark Levinson brand. Sponsored by Guitar Aficionado magazine, the Trio ripped through a wide repertoire, including "Pipeline" from surf music pioneers The Chantays, which they were playing as I took the photo. Jon Iverson has already discussed some of the 40th Anniversary Mark Levinson products; for me the party was an opportunity to catch up with speaker engineer Mark Glazer, responsible for the system design of both Revel's new Performa speakers (report to come) and many other great Revel speakers over the years.

I'm really looking forward to the report on the Performa3 range. I also really hope that a review is forthcoming as well. smiley

Those guys are outstanding musicians. I've had a chance to both hear them play and meet them.

acoustical instruments play as they should be... without aid of amplification or effect stomp boxes...

Huh? - JA

They are amplified, they have guitar cables plugged in to them and those certainly look like pedal boards on the floor ;-)

a compendium of the worse photogrpahs ever taken and published at an audio show? Inquiring minds would like to know.

It was dark, exposure was 1/2 second at f2.8, and would you believe that the guitarists couldn't stay perfectly still for that time :-) - JA

I guess you couldn't have boosted the ISO? Sure, you may get a little bit of noise but you may have gotten a sharper shot. Also, it seems that the focus seems to be on the effects  boxes on the floor.

I see you've taken to the fancy cocktails. It could be interefering with your photographic prowess ;-)

It was 800 ASA; more than that and there is more noise than image with my camera :-(

They were the only things not moving :-)

I guess JA  and soulful.terrain didnt pick up on my irony and sarcasm.

I tried to find a smiley that represented the sarcasm emotion but it doesnt exist

JA has probably been living in the USA too long and lost his British gene related to humour.
