Anyone heard the new Sade album?

While waiting for it to be delivered I have dug out some of her early albums on vinyl. Great music and surprisingly good sonics.

Realized the last time I played Diamond Life I had a Rega Planar 3.

And hair.

Oh the memories...

Re: Anyone heard the new Sade album?

The burning question...will Robert Reina have a new reference for bass performance?

Jeez RG, it's like there's been a nuclear war and you and I are the only survivors. It's like something out of 'Talking World War 3 Blues':

Re: Anyone heard the new Sade album?

I've been through it several times now and mostly it's nice to hear her voice again, but the album doesn't real grab me.

I'll keep at it.

Tempus fugit! I still think of Love Deluxe as a relatively new release - - Nineteen freakin' ninety two!

I loved her first album on LP - demo quality!

I got to meet her at a party during her stop at the Concord Pavillion back in...somewhere between July 1988 and June 1991. She is very lovely. She wouldn't marry me.

Got to go to a meet and greet in L.A. when she played Universal Amphitheater (somewhere during 1992 or 1993) and she remembered the shirt I was wearing the first time...but she still wouldn't marry me.

Luckily, I married up from there.

Great story Buddha. Do you ever wonder how things would have turned out if she'd said "yes"?

Kinda like the joke about Hillary Clinton meeting up with an old boyfriend. He says "Bet you're glad you didn't marry me, if you had you'd be the wife of a humble garage mechanic" to which she replies "No. If I'd married you, you would have become President of the United States". Hoo hoo.

There is so much truth to this.

So how does one properly pronounce Sade? I thought it was shah-day', but the recent ads throw an "r" into it.

Well according to Wikipedia* the correct pronunciation is 'shah-DAY', so that must be right.

Maybe they were thinking of (or drinking) 'shah-donn-ay'?

* Proof by Wikipedia a.k.a. "Wait, did I read that or did I write it?".

Re: Anyone heard the new Sade album?

According to thinkbabynames dot com:

The girl's name Sade \s(a)-
de\ is pronounced shah-DAY, shar-DAY. Short form of Folasade, a Yoruban/African name meaning "honor confers a crown". The Nigerian singer Sade has influenced popularity of the name and the shar-DAY pronunciation. See also Shadiya and Sharde.

Sade has 3 variant forms: Sada, Sadia and Sadina.

Baby names that sound like Sade are Sadie, Sadye and Sadee.

Sade is a very common first name for women (#1744 out of 4276) and also a very common last name for both men and women (#39350 out of 88799). (1990 U.S. Census)

Re: Anyone heard the new Sade album?

A linguist friend of mine indicates that it is shar-DAY, but with a very soft "r" - one that is difficult for 'mercans to say.

Listened through a few times today and I have to agree. First impression is of material that is the result of some very meticulous synthetic process, not passionate artisitc creativity. It struck me that the lyrics somehow seem a lot more trite than her previous albums, or is it just me becoming more cynical in my dotage? Amazingly her voice hasn't changed one iota in 26 years though.

Like you, I'll keep at it.

Re: Anyone heard the new Sade album?

There's one song that I was sure the lyrics were, "You're daddy knows, you were a fling." Which seemed very cynical.

My kids (two boys, aged 9 and 12, who are Black Eyed Peas fans) thought it was, "Your lady lumps, are my thing." (Then they laughed hysterically.)

That song is turning into one of those cuts on an album that CD makes better - you can just hit the 'next' button.

Funny, in the same song I thought she sang "Your daddy don't come with a lifetime guarantee" which also struck me as very cynical but was also wrong. I should point out, audiophile siblings, that I had the music on in the background in the next room, this is not a resolving problem with my system!

Sounds like they're chips off the old block!

According to UK newspaper The Guardian Soldier of Love sold 1.5M copies in its first week and hit No.1 in 14 countries.

Men in their prime (like you & me Buddha ) may save the record industry yet!

"flame" not "fling". I think. Will verify with the lyric sheet (later)
